So, like, back in the day in 2009, Microsoft was all hyped up about Project Milo. It was supposed to be this interactive game where you could hang out with a kid named Milo. Sounds cool, right? Well, turns out it never actually got released, and the whole thing got canned in 2010. Bummer.
What went down, you ask? Peter Molyneux spilled the tea at Nordic Game 2025 in Malmö. Basically, Microsoft was all about this new tech called Kinect, which was all about gesture recognition. But Peter was like, “Nah, I don’t wanna be prancing around like a twat when I game.” Can’t blame the guy, sitting back and relaxing with a controller sounds way better.
So, they started working on this demo for Project Milo, where you could talk to Milo and hand him stuff in the game. But then Microsoft was like, “Nah, let’s make Kinect a party device.” And just like that, Project Milo was no more. Such a shame, man. The whole thing had this magical vibe of just hanging out with someone who loves you. Oh well, maybe it wasn’t meant to be.
