May 2026 was supposed to be the month that kicked off the next phase of the Marvel cinematic universe with the highly anticipated return of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a bit longer as both Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars have been hit with a seven-month delay. It seems like we’ll have to make do with Grand Theft Auto 6 taking the spotlight for now, at least until it potentially gets delayed again. It’s a bummer for Marvel fans, but hey, at least we still have Spider-Man: Brand New Day to look forward to in July next year.

Marvel made the tough decision to push back both blockbusters to give them more time to perfect their massive scope and ambition. Avengers: Doomsday is now slated for release on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027. The Russo Brothers are at the helm of both movies, with Doomsday even featuring cameos from the cast of the 2000s X-Men movies. Despite the delays, there’s still a lot of excitement surrounding the next phase of the MCU, with Disney aiming to recapture the magic of the franchise’s earlier days. It’s unclear what exactly this new phase will entail, but fans are eagerly waiting to see what unfolds.

One thing Doomsday won’t have to worry about now is competing with the launch of GTA 6, which is set for May 26, 2026. Take-Two’s CEO is already touting it as the biggest entertainment launch ever, so it’s safe to say that all eyes will be on the highly anticipated game. Meanwhile, The Mandalorian & Grogu will have to face the full force of GTA 6’s release just a week after their debut on May 22. Despite the competition, the Star Wars spin-off can take solace in the fact that it won’t have any major video game releases to contend with in the same month. It’s going to be a tough battle for viewers’ attention, but with such highly anticipated releases on the horizon, it’s sure to be an exciting time for fans of both Marvel and gaming.
