So, apparently the director of Elden Ring Nightreign, Junya Ishizaki, has come forward to apologize for the lack of a two-player mode in the game. Like, seriously, how did they miss that during development? I mean, it’s a multiplayer spin-off designed for three players, but they totally forgot about the option for just two players. Oops.
Ishizaki explained to IGN that they were so focused on making it a multiplayer co-op game for three players that they kind of neglected the whole two-player aspect. He mentioned that they did think about solo play from the beginning and put effort into making it work, but somehow missed out on the duos feature. Now they are thinking about adding it post-launch, so that’s something to look forward to.
The director also talked about how solo players in the game might feel a bit lonely at times, even when playing as part of a group of three. He mentioned that solo play is actually encouraged and is a natural part of the game loop. Ishizaki reassured players that the enemies’ aggressiveness towards a single player has been adjusted so that solo players don’t find themselves overwhelmed in fights. He also hinted at a hidden self-revive feature for players to discover while playing solo.
Overall, it seems like the team at FromSoftware is taking feedback seriously and making adjustments based on player experiences. It’s good to see that they are considering adding the two-player mode post-launch to make the game more inclusive for all types of players. Who knows, maybe this oversight will turn into an opportunity to improve the overall gameplay experience.
