The GameChat feature will be free for Switch 2 users until 31st March 2026, but after that, you’ll need a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. Oh, and don’t forget to register your phone number with a Nintendo account if you wanna keep using it. Seems like a lot of hoops to jump through just to chat while gaming, but hey, that’s technology for you.
On the bright side, GameChat will have text-to-speech and live captions, so that’s kinda cool. And Nintendo will be recording video and voice chats for safety reasons, which is a bit creepy if you ask me. But hey, at least they’re trying to make the online environment safer for everyone. The Switch 2 is dropping on 5th June worldwide, so get ready to chat it up with your pals while gaming.
