Freshly penned and all set for action, today’s hint might be the missing puzzle piece you need to conquer Saturday’s Wordle. I almost lost a whole row due to a silly typo, but luckily caught my mistake just in the nick of time (it was a close call, not gonna lie). This turned out to be a pretty intriguing Wordle for me, with my incorrect guesses throwing me for a loop in ways I never saw coming. Getting past my confusion was half the battle.

Wordle today: A clue for Saturday, May 3

Something gone awry? Then you’ll need a scapegoat. A person easily manipulated or coerced into taking the fall for you, even though they’ll end up worse off for it.

Nope, there ain’t a double letter in today’s brain teaser.

Wordle tips: 3 pointers for outsmarting Wordle every day

A solid initial guess can make all the difference between triumph and defeat in the daily challenge, but once you’ve got the basics down, it’s smoother sailing to secure those Wordle victories. And since there’s nothing quite like a small triumph to kickstart your day, here are a few pointers to steer you in the right direction:
• A good starting guess should have a mix of unique consonants and vowels.
• Streamline the letter pool swiftly with a strategic second guess.
• Keep an eye out for letters appearing more than once in the solution.

There’s no need to rush against the clock with Wordle, so take your time to mull over the answer. Treating the game like a leisurely newspaper crossword can be a smart move; that way, you can always come back to it later if you hit a mental roadblock. Stepping away for a bit might be the key to unlocking a win and avoiding a row of blank squares.

Wordle presents you with six rows of five boxes each day, challenging you to unveil the hidden five-letter word within to maintain your winning streak. Start off with a strong word like ARISE, or any word with a good mix of common consonants and multiple vowels. Avoid starting words with repeated letters, as you might miss the chance to confirm or eliminate an extra letter. After you submit your guess, you’ll see which letters are right or wrong. A ⬛️ box means the letter isn’t in the word at all, 🟨 means the letter is in the word but in the wrong spot, and 🟩 means you’ve got the right letter in the right place.

Your second guess should complement the initial word, using another strong choice to cover any common letters you missed earlier while steering clear of letters you now know aren’t part of today’s solution. With a bit of luck, you’ll have some colored squares to guide you on the right path.

After that, it’s just a matter of applying what you’ve learned to narrow down your guesses to the correct word. You get six tries in total and must use real words (so no spamming EEEEE to test for an E). Remember, letters can repeat in the solution (e.g., BOOKS).

Originally dreamt up by software engineer Josh Wardle as a surprise for his word game-loving partner, Wordle quickly became a hit with his family before being released to the public. The word puzzle game has inspired numerous spin-offs, focusing on music, math, or geography. Its popularity soared to the point where it was acquired by the New York Times for a hefty sum. It’s only a matter of time before we’re all communicating solely through tricolor boxes.
