Interstellar fans were excited to hear about the 10th-anniversary IMAX release of the beloved sci-fi film. However, the excitement quickly turned into disappointment and frustration as the ticket pre-order process was chaotic and confusing.
Initially, tickets were set to go on pre-order on November 7, but fans were caught off guard by the lack of advance warning. To add to the confusion, different ticketing platforms had varying release times, with some fans managing to secure tickets earlier than others. Additionally, only a select few IMAX theaters across six states will be showing Interstellar, and the screenings are limited to just one week from December 6 to December 13.
The limited availability of tickets led to a quick sellout within 24 hours, leaving many fans empty-handed. Some dedicated fans have gone to extreme lengths, traveling long distances and booking accommodations just to catch a screening of Interstellar in IMAX. The high demand for tickets has even led to fans competing against other blockbuster releases like Moana 2 and Sonic 3.
Despite the challenges, one theater in Fort Lauderdale has announced an extended showing of Interstellar in IMAX for a second week due to popular demand. However, many fans are still hoping for additional screenings in more locations in the future.
For now, those who missed out on IMAX tickets will have to settle for regular screenings later in December. The disappointment and frustration among fans highlight the strong connection and admiration for Christopher Nolan’s masterpiece, Interstellar. Hopefully, more theaters will consider bringing back the film to IMAX for a wider audience to enjoy.
