Devil May Cry’s big boss, Hideki Kamiya, spilled the beans that he would totally be down to remake the first game in the series. He admitted that the old school vibes of the original game are starting to show their age, saying it feels like a relic from 24 years ago. In a recent episode of his YouTube show, Kamiya dropped this bombshell in response to a fan’s question, showing off his excitement for the possibility of a remake.

Kamiya, known for his work on classics like Resident Evil 2, Okami, and Viewtiful Joe, recently rekindled his partnership with Capcom after parting ways with them back in 2006. When asked about how he would approach a Devil May Cry remake, he didn’t hold back, saying, “I’d love to do that.” He also mentioned that even though he doesn’t usually replay his own games, Devil May Cry feels like a blast from the past in terms of game design.

The director expressed his desire to rebuild the game from scratch using modern technology and game design techniques. He made it clear that he’s not just talking for the sake of it, stating, “I don’t think seriously unless it’s really happening.” However, he did throw in a cheeky request to Capcom, saying, “Leave it to me! Also, let me handle Viewtiful Joe too!”

Devil May Cry has come a long way since its inception in 2001, with five major games and a not-so-well-received reboot in 2013. Kamiya was at the helm for the first game but has since moved on to form his own studio, Clovers. Currently, he’s teaming up with Capcom to work on a sequel to the fan-favorite Okami.

While Devil May Cry has been quiet since the release of the fifth installment in 2019, it made a comeback with a Netflix series earlier this year. The show, which follows the demon-slaying adventures of the white-haired Dante, has been praised for its fresh take on the series’ lore.

With Kamiya’s enthusiasm for a potential remake and his track record of creating beloved games, fans of Devil May Cry have something to look forward to. Whether or not Capcom will take him up on his offer remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure – the Devil May Cry community is buzzing with excitement at the thought of a revamped original game.
