So, like, it’s been a week, right? And honestly, it seems like we’re gonna have to shell out some serious cash for consoles and games now. Plus, we might have to deal with less awesome gaming journalism to read and watch. And to add insult to injury, GTA 6 isn’t even dropping this year! But hey, games still matter, and there are some pretty rad ones out there worth your time. So, if you’re feeling a bit lost on what to play, maybe hearing about what we’re into right now will give you some ideas.

I’m not really sure why this matters, but I played this first-person shooter called Wizordum during its early access phase and had a blast. But, you know how it goes with early access games. I found myself wanting to take a break and wait for the final version to come out. And now it’s here, and let me tell you, it’s awesome!

When you look at screenshots of Wizordum, you’d think it’s gonna be one of those super-fast boomer shooters. But surprise, surprise! It’s actually a more methodical game with massive levels made up of multiple buildings and floors, each hiding secrets like those classic Doom games. Combat is a mix of melee and ranged, with extra spell scrolls and items to spice things up between levels by visiting a shop. It’s just so much fun. I’m kinda obsessed with finding every secret in the levels, which is definitely slowing me down, but hey, at least I’m racking up the treasure! — John Walker

So, here’s the deal. Most of my evenings this week were spent playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. And you know what? My weekend plans? More of the same, baby.

Well, hopefully, things will be a bit different this weekend because I actually want to make some progress in the story. Lately, I’ve just been grinding on the hardest difficulty for hours on end. I’ve been messing up those Nevrons, trying out every possible strategy, and really getting a feel for the battle system. Clair Obscur really nails that classic battle vibe from the old Final Fantasy games. It’s not just about turn-based combat; it’s about the whole show. The camera zooms in to show off our cast striking strong battle poses and making moves during the fight. And those quick parries and dodges? I’m getting better at pulling them off consistently. Nailing the timing requires serious focus, watching closely for the enemy’s attack cues. So yeah, I’m spending a lot of time admiring the enemy design and soaking in the beautiful art while honing my skills. Sounds like a solid way to spend a few evenings, right? — Claire Jackson

You know, I hadn’t really paid much attention to Despelote until this week. But my buddy and ex-Kotaku writer Moises Taveras dropped by a few days ago and told me this game made him cry. I trust Moises’ opinion more than most folks on this planet, so I was already sold. But after reading his review over at Digital Trends, I went ahead and installed it on my PS5 to give it a go this weekend. If Moises says it’s worth playing, then it’s worth playing. — Kenneth Shepard

It’s no secret that I’m planning to dive back into Fortnite. Call me crazy, but I’m hyped for this new Star Wars season because I’m a total Star Wars fanatic. I’m ready to drop way too much money on new skins and items. I’m a bit of a sucker, I know. But hey, Fortnite is still a blast and one of the top third-person shooters out there right now. Plus, where else can you see Darth Vader going head to head with Lady Gaga and Goku? — Zack Zwiezen

I totally missed the memo that Blendo Games dropped something new this week. 2025 just keeps on surprising us, huh? Skin Deep is being touted as a sci-fi immersive sim where you sneak around a wacky space ship filled with slapstick comedy to take out a gang of pirates. It’s been getting rave reviews as well as some more lukewarm responses. PC Gamer called it an “indulgent masterclass in immersive sim shenanigans,” while GamesRadar praised it as “funny, never boring” and “a must-play indie game this year.” But not everyone is on board. Digital Trends pointed out some bugs and repetition, and The Guardian found the humor a bit too sweet, dubbing it “Deus Ex for Disney adults.”

From Gravity Bones to Thirty Flights of Loving, Blendo Games has a track record of blending gameplay and storytelling in unique ways. I’m excited to delve deeper into Skin Deep this weekend (only played the first level so far). The overall vibe might not click with me, but I can already see why fans are calling it the go-to immersive sim for sim fanatics with its stealthy pirate takedowns. Blendo’s got some tricks up their sleeves, that’s for sure. — Ethan Gach

And that’s a wrap on our weekend picks. Get your game on and enjoy!
