Splitgate, the popular online shooter mashup of Halo and Portal, is getting a sequel that is promised to be bigger and better than the original. The team behind the game, 1047 Games, has announced that Splitgate 2 will be coming in 2025. The game will still be free-to-play and will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
The sequel will feature three unique factions that will allow players to choose and progress based on their preferred gameplay style. There will be a large variety of arenas, weapons, and modes to keep things fresh for players. Splitgate 2 is being developed in Unreal Engine 5 and the team working on it includes veterans from popular games like Call of Duty, Overwatch, Valorant, God of War: Ragnarok, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
In addition to the game, there will be a free app available for download that will provide more information about the in-game universe. There will also be a five-issue comic book arc released to further expand the story of Splitgate 2. The developers are focused on creating a rich world with detailed art direction, world building, and map design.
Splitgate was originally launched in Early Access in 2019 and gained popularity when it went into beta across PC and console. The interest in the game led to sporadic outages and downtime to fix server issues, eventually leading to the developers shifting their focus to working on the sequel. Despite this, the servers for the original game remain active and people are still playing it today.
While the characters in Splitgate 2 may still look a bit visually bland based on the initial trailer, the arena design looks promising and intriguing. The game promises to deliver an exciting gameplay experience with its unique blend of old-school arena shooter mechanics and on-demand portals.
Fans of the original Splitgate and newcomers alike can look forward to the release of Splitgate 2 in 2025, with the promise of an even more immersive and engaging gaming experience.
