Crystal Dynamics recently announced that the popular dark fantasy action-adventures Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 would be receiving a remaster treatment. Aspyr, the developer behind the remaster, has now revealed some of the enhancements that players can expect when the two-game bundle is released in December.
In addition to showcasing the games’ bosses, Aspyr has confirmed that the remaster will include remodelling, retexturing, and improvements to the original boss roster’s appearance. The antagonist Kain will also receive a “completely redesigned” model to address textural issues and bring his look closer to the original FMVs.
One of the new features in the remastered versions includes a map and compass, which aim to blend modern gameplay conveniences with the exploration experience of the original titles. The compass gently guides players in the right direction without revealing specific details, while the map serves as a reference tool. Players will also have access to a collection tracker to monitor their progress in finding all collectibles in each area. For fans seeking a more traditional experience, the remastered visuals can be switched back to the original graphics, and the compass can be disabled in the settings menu.
The Legacy of Kain series has a dedicated fan base, and the anticipation for a revival has been building since Crystal Dynamics first hinted at the possibility in 2022. With over 100,000 positive responses from fans, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered is scheduled to launch on December 10th for PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Series X/S, Switch, and PC.
