The PlayStation 5 Pro has been on the market for a little over a week now, and while it has brought significant improvements to many games, there are some titles that seem to be encountering new issues. Games like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and the Silent Hill 2 remake are being scrutinized by new PS5 Pro owners and Digital Foundry for various problems.

The PS5 Pro was designed to provide additional graphics modes for enhanced gaming experiences, allowing for higher frame rates without compromising on graphical detail, thanks to the new PSSR upscaling technology. While this enhancement is evident in first-party blockbusters like Spider-Man 2 and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, as well as third-party exclusives like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, not every game is benefiting from the PS5 Pro update.

Digital Foundry’s analysis of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on the new hardware revealed “problematic image quality issues” in the 60fps performance mode, particularly with foliage and the ray-tracing feature creating a distracting “strobing” effect. The game’s dynamic resolution, which can drop as low as 720p, is also contributing to the visual problems on the PS5 Pro.

As for the Silent Hill 2 remake, players are still waiting for the PS5 Pro update to address shimmering issues in the game. Despite the console’s better specs providing a general boost to the game’s performance, players are expressing their frustration and hope for a fix from Bloober Team.

While the exact cause of these issues has not been officially confirmed, there is speculation that games with base resolutions below 1080p are struggling with the upscaling process using the Pro’s PSSR technology. Games with higher base resolutions appear to have fewer problems with upscaling, highlighting the importance of developers optimizing their games for new hardware.

Titles like Dragon Age: The Veilguard and Alan Wake 2, which run below 1080p, are also experiencing sub-optimal performance on the PS5 Pro. Despite the fact that many games have been successfully enhanced for the PS5 Pro without encountering these issues, the problems with certain titles are significant, especially given the console’s high price tag of $700.

Update 11/19/2024 4:00 p.m. ET: Both Bloober Team and EA have acknowledged the issues with Silent Hill 2 and Jedi: Survivor on the PS5 Pro and are actively working on solutions. Bloober Team tweeted, “We’re working on it!”

Update 11/22/2024 10:50 a.m. ET: A new 1.06 patch for Silent Hill 2 has been released, addressing some of the PS5 Pro problems, including graphic glitches. The patch simply states, “Fixed graphic glitches on PlayStation 5 Pro.”
