The Sims 4 Welcomes Back Iconic Burglar After 11-Year Hiatus
If you’ve been missing the thrill of a potential break-in during your late-night Sims 4 gaming sessions, you’re in luck. After a long 11-year absence, The Sims 4 has reintroduced the iconic burglar in its latest free update, much to the excitement of long-time fans.
For those who remember the days of the earlier Sims games, the burglar was a constant source of tension and suspense, sneaking into your Sims’ homes under the cover of darkness to pilfer their valuables. The familiar dramatic musical sting would alert players to the impending danger, as they scrambled to protect their Sims from the intruder.
When The Sims 4 originally launched in 2014, burglars were notably absent, leaving a void in the gameplay experience for many longtime players. Now, with the game commemorating its 25th anniversary, the return of the beloved burglar, now named Robin Banks, is sure to add a new level of excitement and challenge to the game.
According to EA’s announcement, Robin Banks will exhibit similar behavior to her predecessors, sneaking into homes at night while residents are asleep, making off with items in her sack before attempting to flee. Players can intervene by calling the police before she escapes, potentially thwarting her criminal activities.
In addition to the return of the burglar, players can once again purchase a burglar alarm to protect their Sims’ homes. If triggered, the alarm will alert the police, giving players a chance to catch the thief in the act. Players can also take matters into their own hands by engaging in a physical confrontation with Robin Banks, provided their Sims are up for the challenge.
EA has incorporated a variety of player-directed interactions and reactions related to the burglar across The Sims 4 base game and its expansion packs. Depending on which expansions players own, they can utilize different tactics to deter or apprehend the burglar, including using pets, werewolves, magic, or even futuristic technology to protect their homes.
For those who find the idea of frequent break-ins overwhelming, EA assures players that burglar visits will be rare by default. However, for those seeking a higher level of challenge, the Heist Havoc Lot Challenge can be activated to increase the frequency of burglaries and test players’ ability to protect their Sims’ homes.
The reintroduction of the burglar coincides with the upcoming release of The Sims 4’s Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Pack, scheduled to launch on Thursday, March 6th. This expansion will allow players to explore new gameplay opportunities, such as running a pet cafe or managing a tattoo parlour, adding depth and variety to the Sims experience.
As The Sims series celebrates its 25th anniversary, with additional events and remasters of classic games, the return of the burglar serves as a nostalgic nod to the franchise’s enduring appeal and the excitement of unexpected challenges in the virtual world.
