Capcom and GOG have teamed up to bring back the original classic Resident Evil games for PC gamers to enjoy. The first game is already available on GOG, with Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis to follow soon. You can purchase all three games in a bundle for $25, saving 17% overall.
These versions of the classic games are DRM-free, meaning you can play them without any restrictions. They have also been updated with quality-of-life improvements and enhanced compatibility for modern PCs. The uncut edition of the first Resident Evil game on GOG features even more blood, graphic violence, and gory scenes compared to the original PlayStation version.
In an interview with Suzi “SphereHunter” Hunterr, GOG discussed the challenges they faced in bringing back these classic games. They had to address technical issues and bugs to meet Capcom’s high standards, submitting dozens of builds for approval during the QA process. The games now feature improved DirectX rendering, new rendering options, and full support for modern controllers. Other enhancements include better cutscene timing, improved save-game management, and the ability to switch between different language options.
This release on GOG marks the first time that Resident Evil is available digitally on PC. Reports suggest that Resident Evil Zero is one of two more remakes currently in development, and there are rumors about an open-world game, Resident Evil 9, in the works.
It’s exciting to see these classic games being revived for a new generation of gamers to enjoy. The nostalgia of playing the original Resident Evil games in their low-polygon glory is sure to bring back fond memories for longtime fans of the franchise. With the added improvements and enhancements, these games are now more accessible and enjoyable than ever before. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or a newcomer to the series, the classic Resident Evil games on PC offer a thrilling experience that is not to be missed.
