Valérie Pécresse (LR) admitted on Friday having “learned a lot” in the absence of having “won” in the presidential election, where she only won 4.78% of the votes in the first round.
“In politics, either you win or you learn. We will say that I learned a lot,” said the president of the Ile-de-France region with a smile to the press in Versailles.
A month after her defeat, the former Republican candidate said she had “taken (her) breath”. “I went for a walk in nature, it’s what rejuvenates the best, I assure you”, she added, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Biennale of architecture and landscape (Bac) of Versailles .
In her speech, Valérie Pécresse affirmed her determination to “accelerate the pace of ecological transition” for the region, pleading for “an ecology of results” and not “punitive”.
On April 10, Valérie Pécresse had obtained only 4.78% of the votes, under the 5% necessary to obtain reimbursement of her campaign expenses for which she was “personally indebted to the tune of five million euros” .
The appeal for donations that it launched to fill this hole, which was to be interrupted on Monday, has been extended until May 31, with the objective of raising the missing million euros, the sums promised up to now reaching 4 million, according to those around him.
