I mean, Oblivion Remastered was supposed to bring back all the childhood memories, right? But then Todd Howard was like, “we have to keep the charm,” and I was like, “uhh what charm?” Turns out, the dev team left in all the weird janky stuff that made the original so funny. Fans are losing it over a scene where Linda Kenyon, the High Elf actor, messes up her lines and asks for a re-do. Classic Tandilwe, the master speechcraft trainer from the Imperial City, right?

Anyway, before Oblivion, Bethesda wasn’t really big on voice acting. Morrowind just had NPCs barking at you (mostly insults), and only the important stuff was voiced. Oblivion changed the game with all dialogue spoken, but the devs had no clue what they were doing. They gave actors random lines in alphabetical order, which explains the awkward acting. Sometimes they forgot to edit out re-takes, like Tandilwe’s line. And trust me, there are more bloopers where that came from in the game. I can’t confirm it yet, but I’m pretty sure they’re still in the remaster.

I love how they kept all the weird stuff in Oblivion. That game is all about pushing boundaries in 2006, even if it meant hitting some roadblocks. Removing the quirks would ruin the whole vibe, you know? It wouldn’t be Oblivion without them.

So, Todd Howard was like, “let’s keep the charm,” and I was like, “okay, sure, bring on the jank.” And here we are, reliving the glory days of voice acting blunders in a remastered game. Life’s good, man.
