My favorite thing about talking to other people who play choice-based RPGs is comparing the choices they make. Whether it’s about the characters they create or the paths they take in the story, I always enjoy hearing how different players approach games like Dragon Age: The Veilguard. With the game just launching a week ago, not everyone has completed it yet, so there isn’t a lot of data on story decisions. However, BioWare has shared some early statistics on the types of characters players are creating.
When it comes to classes, The Veilguard offers three basic combat roles: Warrior, Rogue, and Mage. Surprisingly, players are fairly evenly divided among these classes. 30 percent have chosen Warrior, 30 percent have chosen Rogue, and Mage comes out on top with 40 percent. The Mage class in The Veilguard has been revamped to be more versatile, with both long-range spellcasting and close-range combat abilities. It’s no wonder that many players are drawn to this class for its unique gameplay experience.
In terms of protagonist Rook’s race, Humans are the most popular choice, with 43 percent of players selecting this option. Elves come in second at 40 percent, while Qunari and Dwarves make up a much smaller percentage of players’ choices. The preference for Humans and Elves could be due to players wanting to relate more closely to their in-game character, while Dwarves may be less popular due to their underrepresentation in the Dragon Age universe.
Interestingly, the recruitment mission “Sea of Blood” involving Lucanis seems to be giving players the most trouble, with many deaths occurring during this quest in the first week of gameplay. It will be intriguing to see if this statistic changes as more players progress further into the game and face new challenges.
Choosing a faction for Rook also plays a significant role in shaping the character’s backstory and relationships within the game. The Grey Wardens and Shadow Dragons are tied as the most popular factions, each chosen by 24 percent of players. The other factions, including the Antivan Crows, Veil Jumpers, Lords of Fortune, and Mournwatch, have varying degrees of popularity among players. Each faction offers a unique perspective and set of abilities, adding depth to the gameplay experience.
While the recruitment mission may have been a challenge for many players, the toughest enemy in The Veilguard seems to be one of the dragon fights. High Dragon Corius The Icetalon has been causing trouble for players, especially if they struggle to target its weak points during the battle. As more players progress through the game, it will be interesting to see if this enemy remains the top challenge or if new obstacles arise.
Overall, the choices players make in Dragon Age: The Veilguard not only impact their gameplay experience but also reflect their preferences and playstyles. Whether it’s selecting a class, race, or faction, each decision shapes the character’s journey and interactions within the game world. As more players delve into the game and uncover its secrets, the landscape of choices and challenges is sure to evolve.
