SNK recently unveiled Fatal Fury: City Of The Wolves, the latest installment in their renowned fighting game series. The game, which features American comic-style art and unique fighting mechanics like the S.P.G. system, has been generating excitement since its announcement. At Summer Game Fest, we had the opportunity to try out the game once again and were impressed by the new characters added to the roster.

In this latest demo, two characters, Marco Rodrigues and Vox Reaper, were introduced. Marco practices Kyokugenryu Karate, a style also used by the Sakazaki family, while Vox Reaper is reminiscent of the sub-boss Grant from Garou: Mark Of The Wolves. Each character brings a unique fighting style to the game, with Marco’s powerful punches and kicks standing out.

During our hands-on experience, we found Vox Reaper to excel in the neutral game, relying on patient gameplay and powerful strikes to dominate the match. On the other hand, Marco’s familiarity with the Kyokugenryu Karate style made him a formidable opponent with his fireball and uppercut moves. Both characters offer players a fresh take on fighting in Fatal Fury.

The game’s art style, described as “American comic” by art director Nobuyuki Kuroki, enhances the visual appeal of each character. Kuroki explained that this unique approach was a deliberate choice to set Fatal Fury apart from other games with realistic or anime graphics. The attention to detail in the character designs is evident, making each fighter distinctive and visually striking.

In addition to the new characters, Fatal Fury: City Of The Wolves made headlines with the announcement of guest characters Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui in Street Fighter 6. This collaboration between SNK and Capcom marks a significant milestone in the fighting game genre, creating excitement among fans of both franchises.

Producer Yasuyuki Oda highlighted the positive relationship between the two companies, emphasizing their mutual respect and admiration for each other’s work. The inclusion of Terry and Mai in Street Fighter 6 is a testament to the growing partnership between SNK and Capcom, hinting at more collaborations in the future.

As Fatal Fury: City Of The Wolves gears up for its early 2025 release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, fans can look forward to a reinvigorated SNK and a promising future for the classic fighting franchise. With its engaging gameplay, diverse character roster, and stunning visuals, Fatal Fury is poised to make a splash in the gaming world and pave the way for more exciting developments from SNK.
