A group of experienced game developers who have ventured into the indie world are currently working on a new and exciting project called ColdRidge. This game allows players to embark on a cowboy adventure set in the American West, complete with a unique aesthetic and even singing French cowboys. In ColdRidge, players take on the role of lone explorers who venture into a dynamic frontier to complete missions for the guild.
The main objective in ColdRidge is to complete enough missions within a year to earn the necessary funds to survive. Players can explore the surrounding area, prospecting for valuable resources along the way. By successfully completing missions, players can earn money and permanent bonuses. However, failing to meet the rising guild tax can leave players stranded when winter arrives to reset the frontier.
Players are limited in their exploration each month, with only a few contracts and a set distance of eight hexes of movement. This adds a strategic element to the game, requiring players to be efficient and quick in their decision-making. As the game progresses, the challenges become more difficult, forcing players to carefully plan their routes and resource management.
Having had the opportunity to play a pre-release demo of ColdRidge, I found the concept to be engaging and unique. The game offers a fresh take on the 4X strategy genre by focusing on exploration and resource management from the outset. Players must carefully mark resources, plan routes, and optimize their movement to uncover the map efficiently.
ColdRidge is being developed by Frog Collective, a studio founded by former developers from Amplitude, known for the Endless series of 4X strategy games. Frog Collective aims to release one to two small indie games annually, with ColdRidge being one of their upcoming projects.
The public demo for ColdRidge is scheduled to launch on July 23 and will be available on Steam. For more information about the game and Frog Collective, visit their website.
