Bungie and NetEase have joined forces to introduce Destiny: Rising, a free-to-play mobile version of the popular sci-fi shooter series. This new game is set in an “alternate Destiny timeline” and is gearing up for a “limited access closed alpha test” on both iOS and Android devices starting this November.

The collaboration between Bungie and NetEase was initially announced in 2018, with rumors circulating in 2022 about bringing Destiny to the mobile platform. Destiny: Rising promises a fresh adventure in a unique timeline, set in a post-Dark Age era where players will team up with Iron Lords to combat alien forces threatening humanity’s existence.

Players can expect a shared world experience in Destiny: Rising, exploring various locations from Haven to Jiangshi and the Red Sea Rift. The game will feature single-player, co-op, and competitive multiplayer modes, some of which will be familiar to Destiny players, while others will be brand new. NetEase has confirmed a mix of PvP and PvE content, including campaigns and six-player cooperative strikes.

Additionally, Destiny: Rising will offer a diverse roster of playable characters, including both familiar faces from the series and new, intriguing characters, each with their own unique abilities and stories. Players can choose to play in either first-person or third-person perspective using a controller or touchscreen, showcasing Bungie’s focus on optimizing touch controls for mobile devices.

While Bungie has not announced an official release date for Destiny: Rising, interested players can sign up for the closed alpha test starting on 1st November through the game’s official website. This news comes amidst ongoing updates for Destiny 2, with the recent announcement of the Codename: Apollo expansion featuring a “Metroidvania-inspired destination”, as Bungie strives to keep players engaged and excited about the game’s future despite internal changes at the studio.
