Josh Sawyer, the director of the popular game Fallout: New Vegas, recently expressed his interest in creating another game in the Fallout series. Fans have been eagerly anticipating a sequel or a similar spin-off led by Sawyer, and it seems like he is open to the idea, as long as he is not too restricted by Bethesda.

Developed by Obsidian and released in 2010, Fallout: New Vegas was a game that took Bethesda’s Fallout 3 technology and created a new and beloved open-world RPG. Even in 2024, people still talk about and play the game. With Microsoft now owning both Obsidian and Bethesda, there has been speculation about the possibility of a New Vegas 2.

During a video Q&A session, Sawyer addressed questions about his past projects, game design, and RPGs in general. When asked if he would lead another Fallout game if given the opportunity by Microsoft or Bethesda, Sawyer responded positively, expressing his willingness to do so. However, he emphasized the importance of creative freedom and the need to understand the boundaries and limitations set by the IP holder.

Sawyer highlighted the significance of being able to explore new ideas and themes within the Fallout universe, stating that he would only consider working on a new Fallout game if he had the freedom to do so. He reiterated his love for the franchise and the potential for telling new stories and raising thought-provoking questions about society.

While the possibility of Sawyer leading a new Fallout game, possibly a New Vegas sequel, exists, it ultimately depends on Bethesda’s willingness to allow creative freedom. Without the ability to explore new concepts and push boundaries, Sawyer and his team may not be interested in returning to the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout.
