In the original 1979 Alien movie, the tagline famously said that “in space, no one can hear you scream.” However, it seems that the Xenomorphs have excellent hearing and can detect even the slightest noise in a spaceship or colony. This ability is showcased in a new preview clip from the upcoming film in the franchise, Alien: Romulus.

The clip features Isabela Merced as Kay, a member of a group of young people who decide to scavenge materials from abandoned ships. In this particular scene, Kay is unarmed and trying to sneak past a Xenomorph. The alien appears to be actively searching for Kay and listening carefully as she tries to remain as quiet as possible. This tense moment is reminiscent of a scene from Fede Alvarez’s previous film, Don’t Breathe, where a character hides from a blind killer.

Despite Kay’s efforts to remain undetected, she is taken by surprise when a Xenomorph suddenly appears and drags away two bodies. It is unclear whether these bodies belong to Kay’s crew or were already on the ship, which is now infested with facehuggers and Xenomorphs.

In addition to Isabela Merced, the film stars Cailee Spaeny as Rain Carradine, David Jonsson as Andy, Archie Renaux as Tyler, Spike Fearn as Bjorn, and Aileen Wu as Navarro. Fede Álvarez, known for his work on Don’t Breathe and Evil Dead, directed Alien: Romulus based on a script he co-wrote with Rodo Sayagues. The movie is set to be released in theaters on August 16th.

The intense and suspenseful nature of the clip suggests that Alien: Romulus will deliver the same heart-pounding thrills and scares that fans of the franchise have come to expect. With Fede Álvarez at the helm, audiences can likely anticipate a gripping and visually stunning film that will keep them on the edge of their seats. Stay tuned for more updates and sneak peeks as the release date approaches.
