Summer Games Done Quick 2024 has come to a close, and it has been another successful year, raising an impressive £1.9m ($2.5m) for the charity Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières. This brings the total amount raised by the speedrunning event organizer to a remarkable £40m/$51m across all its events for various charities, including AbleGamers, Organisation for Autism Research, Malala Fund, National Women’s Law Center, and Prevent Cancer Foundation.
The event, which ran 24 hours a day from June 30th to July 6th in Minnesota, was not only a success in terms of fundraising but also in creating memorable moments for attendees. One of the highlights was the adorable Peanut Butter the Dog taking on Ken Griffey Jr. in a game of Major League Baseball, which had the crowd cheering at every pitch and swing.
In addition to the Peanut Butter’s baseball showdown, there were other exciting moments during the event, such as a coordinated dance of Herald of Darkness in Alan Wake 2 and a musical performance from the 1991 classic Sunset Riders. Attendees, both in person and watching virtually on Games Done Quick’s Twitch channel, enjoyed speedy runs of popular games like Elden Ring, Minecraft Dungeons, Celeste 64: Fragments of the Mountain, Halo 3, Old School Runescape, Evil Zone, and many more.
Looking ahead, Games Done Quick has announced that their next event will be the all-women and femmes speedrunning showcase called “Flame Fatales,” scheduled to take place from August 18th to 25th, 2024. This event aims to highlight the talents of women and non-binary speedrunners in the gaming community and raise funds for important causes.
