Starting from January 3rd, 2025, Riot Games will begin banning content creators for engaging in inappropriate behavior off their platforms. This decision comes as a move to protect players from harmful conduct that can affect their gaming experience in various ways.

According to a message shared on Valorant’s social media channels, Riot Games stated that even if a content creator uses offensive language or slurs towards another player or teammate on their stream, it will result in a penalty, regardless of whether it was within the in-game communication or not.

The new policy applies specifically to content where Riot’s games are featured in the background. While Riot will not actively monitor all social media activity, they reserve the right to take action against creators if such behavior is brought to their attention.

For example, if a content creator uses derogatory language towards another player or teammate during a stream, but not within the game itself through chat or voice communication, Riot Games will still impose a penalty as if it occurred in-game.

In summary, the essence of this policy is that any actions or words that violate Riot’s Terms of Service during content creation or broadcasting related to their games can lead to restrictions on Riot accounts and the suspension of Partner privileges for those in the Partner Program.

This move is part of Riot Games’ ongoing efforts to address toxicity within its player community. Earlier this year, Riot’s head Anna Donlon discussed the need for changes to improve the community environment in Valorant and reiterated the company’s commitment to creating a positive and inclusive space for all players.

While Donlon emphasized that harmless banter and interactions are not targeted, she made it clear that there is no tolerance for severe misconduct in the community. Riot Games aims to uphold standards of behavior and ensure that players can enjoy their gaming experience without facing harmful or offensive behavior from others.

By implementing this new policy on off-platform conduct, Riot Games is taking a proactive step towards fostering a healthier and more respectful gaming community for all its players, content creators, and fans.
