Valve is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Half-Life 2 by releasing a special update that includes a new documentary, commentary, integrated DLC, and various improvements. The game, which was first released in 2004, follows the adventures of scientist Gordon Freeman and has become a classic in the gaming world.

The new documentary created by Secret Tape delves into the challenges faced during the making of the game, including financial struggles, hacking incidents, leaks, lawsuits, and the development of Steam. This documentary offers a unique behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Half-Life 2.

In addition to the documentary, Valve has added a brand-new Half-Life 2 commentary to the update. The update also includes the integration of previously separate DLCs such as Episode One, Episode Two, and Lost Coast into the base game. Players can now access player-created content through integrated Steam Workshop support.

Valve has made significant improvements to the game, including bug fixes, restored content, enhanced graphics settings, updated gamepad controls, and aim assistance. Players can now choose between the original launch day effects or those introduced in later episodes, among other options. The full patch notes are available in Valve’s announcement.

The 20th-anniversary update for Half-Life 2 is now available for free on Steam. For those who do not already own the game, it can be downloaded and kept for free on Valve’s platform until Monday, November 18th at 6 pm in the UK.
