The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, a popular roguelike game developed by Edmund McMillen, is celebrating its tenth anniversary this week. To mark this milestone, McMillen has announced that the online co-op mode, which has been highly anticipated by fans, will be officially released on 18th November.
Initially announced in September last year, the online co-op feature has been in beta testing for players who own the Isaac’s Repentance expansion. Now, after over a year of development and testing, McMillen has confirmed that the mode will be available for 2-4 players online, complete with its own completion markers. The best part is that this update will be free and will come with a “considerable” balance patch.
In addition to the online co-op mode, McMillen shared that the update will focus on improving items that players have found to be underwhelming or ineffective. While specific details about the changes have not been revealed, McMillen has teased fans by posting old design documents related to the game on social media.
For those looking to dive back into The Binding of Isaac universe, there is currently a Steam sale running until 11th November. Players can enjoy a 50 percent discount on the base game and a 41 percent discount on the Complete Bundle, which includes all the expansions.
Looking ahead, McMillen’s next project, Mewgenics, a cat-breeding roguelike adventure that was announced in 2013, is expected to be released next year. Fans of McMillen’s unique and quirky game designs have a lot to look forward to in the coming months as they continue to explore the dark and humorous world of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth.
