Diablo IV offers players a challenging experience with its eight levels of difficulty, but the highest four tiers are initially locked when you start the game. If you’re eager to access the Torment difficulty level and dive into the endgame content, here’s a guide to help you unlock it.

While each difficulty level below Torment increases enemy power and experience gained, Torment introduces unique aspects not found in simpler tiers. Starting at Torment 1, players can obtain Ancestral items, which are even more powerful than Legendary items. Additionally, new activities and items become available, and the drop rate of Legendary, Unique, and Mythic Unique items is increased as you progress through Torment 2, 3, and 4. Torment 4 is currently the highest difficulty level available for the open world.

As you progress through the Torment difficulties, your Armor and Resistances will be reduced, making it more challenging to stay alive. This difficulty level is designed for players who want to showcase their mastery of Diablo IV’s systems, mechanics, and their chosen character class.

To unlock Torment difficulty, you must first reach Level 60 and then travel to Cerrigar (Scosglen) to complete The Pit of the Artificer (Tier 20). The Pit of the Artificer is a repeatable, timed dungeon located in Cerrigar, where you’ll find the Artificer’s Obelisk (Portal Activator) just northwest of the Cerrigar Waypoint. If the current highest difficulty, Penitent, feels too easy for you, tackling Tier 20 right away is an option. However, if you prefer to start at easier tiers, you can still earn rewards to strengthen your character before taking on Tier 20.

To activate The Pit of the Artificer, you’ll need three Artificer’s Stones, which can be obtained by completing various activities such as opening Tortured Gifts in Helltide, obtaining Cache Rewards from The Tree of Whispers, participating in Legion Events, defeating World Bosses, clearing Nightmare Dungeons, facing Infernal Hordes, and exploring the Undercity of Kurast.

Now armed with all the necessary information to unlock Torment difficulty in Diablo IV, players can embark on their journey to acquire powerful Ancestral items and test their skills in the highest levels of challenge. Happy hunting and good luck in your adventures in the world of Diablo IV!
