Almost two years after confirming Amazon’s live-action TV adaptation of Sony Santa Monica’s God of War series, the project is reportedly being rebooted due to a “different creative direction” sought by the companies involved. This decision comes after showrunner and executive producer Rafe Judkins, along with executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, have exited the project.
Initially announced in December 2022, the adaptation was set to follow Kratos’ journey with his son to fulfill his wife’s final wishes. The original pitch promised an epic adventure full of challenges that would test the bond between father and son. However, with the recent shakeup, the series is now undergoing significant changes, including the scrapping of multiple scripts already completed for the first season.
While the new creative direction for the God of War TV series remains unknown, there is speculation that it may be tied to future releases or even the original God of War trilogy. This uncertainty means that it will be some time before fans can expect to see the live-action adaptation on the screen.
